Onyx Striped Cup

Sometimes when you open the kiln you get a pleasant surprise!

This cup has a wonderfully dark palate of colors.  There is deep blue, silvery black, pale purple and flame red set against a tan-brown stoneware clay.  Darker colors on the inside than outside.  This cup was fired to cone 10 (hot!) in a gas kiln reduction atmosphere.  The purple and red colors actually came from some other piece next to it in the kiln with copper red glaze.  Serendipity strikes again!  The high heat gave the black clay a nice onyx sheen.

It is a special cup that holds 24 oz, unique is several ways and not to be repeated ever!
